Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project

One of the largest carbon emission reduction programs in Cambodia’s land use sector and a critical role in REDD+ success, a part of the country’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions under the Paris Climate Agreement.

  • 17.4 million tons of CO2 emissions avoided over the next 10 years
  • 167k acres of protected dense forest
  • 13k people live in Keo Seima across 20 villages

Carbon revenues address conservation & climate with area management, enforcement and monitoring tools and technologies. Formalize land and resource use rights for local communities. Market development to diversify income streams through ecotourism, markets & non-timber forest product. Home to critically endangered primates like the black shanked douc, the iconic Asian elephant, as well as the ancestral and contemporary home of the indigenous Bunong.

Katingan Peatland Restoration REDD+ Project

The Katingan Restoration and Conservation Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares (370,163 acres) of peatland ecosystems. With 34 village settlements in the area, the majority make their livelihoods from activities like fishing, food production, rubber tapping and rattan cultivation.

This area has high biodiversity, with at least 144 tree species and endangered faunal species, such as orangutans. The project uses its ERC license to block others from converting the land for other uses, protecting the integrity and avoiding future emissions.

Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project

  • The project area comprises 47,237 hectares of uninhabited lowland peat swamp forest located in the province of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.
  • The project reduces HG emissions by preventing deforestation. The project was implemented in response to the on-going loss of national forest cover that has been brought about through clearing of forest areas with fire to open-up land for agricultural use, especially palm oil plantations. This area, rich in biodiversity, especially of the endangered Bornean orangutan, was slated by the Provincial government to be converted into four palm oil estates.
  • The project is also designed to protect the integrity of the adjacent world-renowned Tanjung Puting National Park, by creating a physical buffer zone on the full extent of the ~90km eastern border of the park.
  • The project monitors for encroachment and land-use change within the CAA as well within a 3-km buffer zone bordering the CA in order to ensure that any drainage activities that may impact the CAA are accounted for.
